Match Report
Avoncroft 2nd XI recorded a comfortable victory away at Claverley. Losing the toss Claverley elected to bat on a pitch that looked like it may have some assistance for the bowlers and the opening pair of Martyn Cound and Andy Pittam started off well with a maiden and then a wicket maiden in the first 2 overs dismissing the dangerous Claverley captain with a great catch taken by young Dan Wood and setting the tone for the day ahead.
Claverley then set about rebuilding but with the run rate not increasing a bowling change was made with Josh Cound replacing one end and shortly afterwards Will Sach coming on at the other end. Both bowlers continued with the tight lines and restricting runs with Will Sach bowling the Claverley number 2 and 3 in quick succession to pile further pressure on the incoming batsman.
Ed Pugh then joined the attack and bowled very well picking up a wicket in his first over with a good catch being taken by Pete Shaw at point. Ed continued his good bowling and picked up another 2 quick wickets while the rotation of bowlers from the top end soon brought a close to Claverleys innings with them being dismissed for 116. All of the bowlers picked up at least 1 wicket and were ably backed up by the fielders with a special mention to Chris Morris playing his first game for the club and taking a fizzing catch at cover.
Avoncroft set about the chase with Jason Huxley and Will Sach opening the batting and getting us off to a quick start before Will was caught behind on 15. This brought Pete Shaw to the crease to join Jason and together they brought Avoncroft home for the loss of only 1 wicket with Jason ending up 51* and Pete 34*.
Congratulations to all for a clinical performance with both ball and bat. Next week we play away at Five Ways Old Edwardians as we look to maintain our good recent form and push further up the table.
