Avoncroft 1st XI suffered a heavy defeat to Malvern after Malvern won the toss and elected to bat first.
Croft were not on their game from ball one with loose bowling and some poor fielding contributing towards a past paced start from Malvern. Corft began to peg Malvern back with the removal of both openers in quick succession, Jon Hunter and Will Sach making the breakthrough. Tom Hale came in at number 4 for Malvern and provided the structure to the innings for Malvern, scoring 110 before Athey produced a good run out. Malvern finished on 277-8 from their 50 overs, wickets shared amongst Jon Hunter (1), Paul Athey (2), Will Sach (1) and Mark Whitehead (2). Dan Elliot bowled well to only go for 42 in his 10 overs but was unlucky not to pick up a wicket.
Croft’s chase stuttered from the start, John Brunt and Will Sach both removed early on bringing Tom Murray and Dave Anson to the crease. Both took a liking to the pace of Malvern bowler Pilgrim with both batsman striking some heavy blows to push the total along. When Anson (32) and Murray (39) departed though Croft began to wobble again with only Paul Athey and Jason Patel making it into double figures. Croft were dismissed for 162 in the 38th over.
A disappointing performance with the bat again had led to the downfall of the team.
Croft return to action next weekend against Netherton.
