Avoncroft Under 8’s held their nerve to win the group on net run rate after a well contested festival held at Avoncroft.
In the first match against Cookhill Avoncroft scored 262 for 2 wickets lost solid contributions throughout the team.
Cookhill replied with 235 for 5 with two wickets for Hayden Smith and one each for Henry Greaves Rhys Pate and Ben Athey.
In the second match Avoncroft produced arguably their worst performance of the season to lose to Barnt Green by 5 runs with a good all round contribution from Ben Athey otherwise just a grumpy coach to report!!
This meant that Avoncroft needed to beat Ombersley by a sizeable margin to secure the group-a tough task given the tight contests already between the two teams. Avoncroft batted first and scored 270 for 3 wickets lost Ben Athey leading the way with 14 and 10 for Henry Greaves in a good partnership with solid contributions helping to post a good total. Avoncroft then bowled tightly to put a smile back on the coaches face and limit Ombersley to 221 for 4 with Ben Athey taking two wickets to cap an impressive mornings work and a wicket apiece for Hayden Smith and Callum Hooper.
The margin of victory helped secure the Group and a place in the finals.
