Under 11’s beat Five Ways to complete back to back league wins
Avoncroft’s Under 11s continued their upturn in fortunes with an emphatic victory against Five Ways in their latest pairs contest. Croft batted first and were given a solid start by Sam Taylor and Ben Hunt, who contributed net totals of 11 and 3 respectively. Five Ways fought back, picking up 4 wickets from the middle 2 pairs, but an unbeaten final partnership between Matthew Athey (12) and Oscar Jinks (10) helped Croft to a competitive 89-5 (net 264) from their 16 overs.
In reply, the game was neatly poised after Five Ways’ first two pairs had batted, contributing 23 runs off the bat plus the occasion bonus from extras for the loss of just 2 wickets. From this point on however, the Croft bowlers really turned the screw. 8 year old Ben Athey was the star of the show, picking up 4-7 in his 3 overs, and he was ably supported by Oscar Jinks (2-9), Matthew Athey (1-5), Fin Morris (1-8) and Sam Taylor (1-12). With an energetic fielding display also contributing two run outs, Croft reduced their hosts to 66-11 (net 211) from their 16 overs to complete a 53 run victory.
