Avoncroft looked to continue their unbeaten start to the season at home against Old Vigs and having lost the toss were given first go with the ball under cloudy skies.
As has now become the norm skipper Jon Hunter started very tightly and made the breakthrough early in the innings clean bowling the opener with a great in swinging Yorker. Reducing the visitors to 23-1. Opener Osman Fiaz showed his attacking intent particularly against the short ball from Athey. The introduction of Dan Elliot made things happen as he settled into his line and length straight away clean taking the next wicket which was followed by 2 quick wickets from Hunter to restrict the visitors to 56-4. Fiaz kept going before being removed and becoming new signing Matt Palmers first victim behind the stumps off the bowling of Craig Hughes for a well-made 46. Andy Pittam was then bought into the attack bowling very tidily and taking the next wicket thanks to a sharp catch up to the stumps by Palmer. The wickets continued to follow despite some lower order hitting and was finally wrapped up when youngster Luke Warren took his maiden first team wicket with a great clean bowled and the innings finished with the visitors making 126 inside 36 overs. Hunter finishing with the economical figures of 11-5-16-3, Craig Hughes 3-34, Elliott 1-24, Pittam 1-9 and Warren 1-8. A good performance which was lead in the field by youngster Warren who set a high standard in ground fielding with a number of great stops showing the old guard how it should be done.
Avoncroft got off to a shakey start with opener Chris Pitt being removed for 7 and he was soon followed by Josh Cound (2) leaving croft 53-2. Dan Elliott was going well at the other end and was joined by the inform Mark Whitehead and between them they punished anything off line with Elliot reaching his 50. Whitehead finished the game off in style with a big 6 which left him on 49 not out from just 40 deliveries and Elliott finishing on 59 not out from 43 deliveries.
A very solid and professional all round performance from the boys who look to continue the good form away to Barnards Green next week.
